Who We Are

We Create Seamless Volunteer Experiences

Medical Journeys is a nonprofit organization. Our primary job is to ensure that your volunteer experience meets your needs and expectations in all ways. However, our work goes far beyond this. We work to ensure your seamless integration into each health facility so that it also benefits the medical staff there, and most importantly, the patients.

Our partnership with Imaging the World is one of the things that make Medical Journeys unique. Imaging the World is a nonprofit organization that provides ultrasound equipment and training to rural, underserved parts of Africa, saving the lives of mothers and babies by improving pregnancy care.  Since 2010, the group has implemented ultrasound programs and training throughout Uganda and is now beginning to work in Malawi.

Imaging the World has grown out of the Robert Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. The organization now employs a large staff at Imaging the World Africa in Uganda. As part of Medical Journeys’ agreement with Imaging the World, this staff serves as a direct resource to our organization as well. These are the people who will pick you up at the airport, transport you to your assigned health center, and see that you are safe, content and productive.

The close relationship that Imaging the World has with rural health facilitates in Uganda is what enables our volunteers to serve in truly meaningful capacities at these hospitals and clinics.

It is important to note that any of your volunteer fees that are not used directly to pay your costs will go to support the work of Imaging the World.
