Volunteering in Malawi
Our partner organization, Imaging the World, is just beginning to work with hospitals in Malawi and we’ll soon be able to place volunteers in this south-central African country.
Malawi, a poor country with a mostly rural population, experiences a grave shortage of medical personnel and most are based in the capital and other large cities. And while the major health facilities lack personnel and funding, the situation is even worse at secondary facilities and especially in rural clinics.
While health care is free for people throughout Malawi, less than half the populations lives within three miles of a health care facility, turning transportation into a major hurdle, especially when serious cases are referred to central medical facilities.
